Transition words are phrases or words used to connect one idea to the next. They help the reader progress from one significant idea to the next and show the relationship within a paragraph (or within a sentence) between the main idea and the support the author gives for those ideas. This resource highlights the fact that different transitions do different things. Students can view the four major types of transitions: additive, adversative, causal, and sequential and several examples of each type.
