In this activity, students read a brief description of the landscape genre in ukiyo-e prints before examining four ukiyo-e prints and recording their observations regarding the subject, setting, people, and landscapes in each image. Students are asked to make inferences about life in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Japan based on what they see in the images.
