The geologic time scale is different from what we understand time to be. To help students understand the geologic time scale, they will construct a multi-generational family tree using geologic time terms. Just like how family trees are divided into generations with the youngest branching out from the oldest, the geologic time scale can mimic that with ages making up eons. Geologic family trees will cover the major divisions of Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic.
