In this 6:11 video, students learn how NASA engineers are using a unique new technology to overcome the challenges of entry, descent, and landing on a planetary body with an atmosphere. They are introduced to the Hypersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerators, or HIADs, which can be used to land larger rovers at higher altitudes or safely bring cargo from the ISS back to Earth. This technology is also a possibility for exploring Mars.
